RUKUNGIRI! Mob kills two family members on allegations of witch crafting

NEWS-The Police in Rukungiri district are investigating circumstances under which two family members were killed by mob on allegations of witch crafting.

Anet Kagyere 51, a sister to Katarihwa Naris 48, were killed by mob and they are all residents of Rwencweera cell, Rushasha parish in Nyakagyeme Sub County, Rukungiri district.

The two were killed today morning at around 7am near Nyarugando Health Center and their bodies were later set ablaze at the crime scene.

According to the area village chairperson Banard Tibebwa, the deceased were accused of involvement in witchcraft stressing that he has on several occasions been trying to solve their issues but all in vain.

The mob was ignited by the death of former Rukungiri woman MP Betty Muzanira’s brother Ndyanabangyi Valeriano whom they suspect to have been bewitched by the duo.

By the time of the incident, burial arrangements of Ndyanabangyi Valeriano were going on however brought to standstill following the disappearance of all residents who participated in the mob action.

Police from Rukungiri central station led by DPC SP. Musa Tibakirana rushed immediately to the scene where they retrieved the bodies and conveyed them to Rwakabengo Health Center III for postmortem examination as investigation into the matter continues.

Speaking to the residents, SP Tibakirana condemned the mob act adding that those who were involved will be brought to book and charged accordingly.

SP Tibakirana advised the residents to stop believing in witchcraft if they are to have well and organized societies.

He however called on residents to always report their grievances to responsible government authorities for assistance instead of mob Justice that might throw them into trouble.
