Two people were killed and another one injured by landslide during a heavy down pour at Karandagasi stone/ sand quarry Kitojo parish Bubaare sub county Rubanda district.
The incident occurred Yesterday 29/04/2023 at around 2:00pm
Elly Maate kigezi region police spokesperson has identified the victims as Byabyoma John Bosco 46yrs a mukiga peasant resident of Rwabarera cell Kitojo parish Bubaare sub county and his son one Magara Andrew aged 16 yrs a mukiga S.2 student at Creamland High school in Kabale municipality who died on spot, while his worker only known as Boy was recovered still alive and was rushed to Kabale referral hospital where is admitted.
According to Maate It’s alleged that Saturday morning, the three reported for work at that quarry, and while were mining sand, it started raining at around 11:00am.
Maate adds that at around 1:00pm, they took shelter from the rain at a cave made of rocks and sand near where they were mining the sand. They had also lit fire to keep them warm.
Unfortunately, the wall of the cave then collapsed on them instantly, covering them underneath.
Scene was visited by a team of security officers from both Kabale and Rubanda including the RDC Kabale, Diso Kabale, Diso Rubanda DHO Kabale and police officers from both districts.
The injured was rushed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital by the Kabale ambulance.
Community policing was done at the scene to sensitise the community against dangerous activities like sand mining in such dangerous situations especially during rain season.
Postmortem was done at the scene by DHO Kabale and bodies were handed over to the relatives for burial.
