Joint security forces arrest two over illegal possession of fire arms in Kisoro


Joint security forces in kisoro have arrested two suspects allegedly being in possession of fire arm illegally.

The suspects are Sadiki Gashendure 29 years a Congole resident of Karambo village Bunagana in DRC and Silvani Uwirangiye 32 years a resident of Gatete village Rwaramba parish Nyakinama sub county Kisoro district.

Elly Maate kigezi region police spokesperson said this happened  yesterday at around 08:00pm on intelligence tip off, when one  identified as Sadiki Gashendure passed through Bunyangaro  Nyabwishenya Kisoro boarder from DRC with some fire arms.

Immediately the security forces of UPDF and Police followed up to Kisoro township near Stanbic bank where he was arrested, and found in possession of two hand grenades.

On interrogation, he revealed that he has an SMG rifle which is kept with one  Silvan Uwiragiye who was also arrested and led them to it’s recovery ( SMG rifle no. 56×20019268), together with 64 rounds of live ammunitions which was buried in the banana plantation near his home in Gatete.

All the recovered arms together with the two suspects are in police custody as investigations continue to establish the source of the fire arms, the motive and if there are more associates.
